SGX Cuts Minimum Board Lot to 10 Shares. Here's What It Means for Investors.

Key Dates
•             2 October 2026 (Friday): Existing orders for the affected stocks will be cancelled after market close.

•             5 October 2026 (Monday): The reduced board lot sizes will take effect, and trading will commence under the new board lot requirements.

The Singapore Exchange (SGX) is reducing the minimum lot size for higher-priced securities, cutting the minimum number of shares investors need to buy in one go. For counters priced above S$10 and up to S$100, the minimum lot size requirement falls from 100 units to 10. Counters priced above S$100 will move to a board lot of just 1 unit.

The first batch of 11 stocks with the reduced requirements of 10 shares are:

·         DBS Group Holdings Ltd  (D05)

·         Great Eastern Holdings Ltd (G07)

·         Haw Par Corporation Ltd (H02)

·         Jardine Cycle & Carriage Ltd (C07)

·         Jardine Matheson Holdings Ltd (J36)

·         Keppel Ltd (BN4)

·         Oversea-Chinese Banking Corporation Ltd (O39)

·         Prudential PLC (K6S)

·         Singapore Exchange Limited (S68)

·         United Overseas Bank Limited (U11)

·         Venture Corporation Limited (V03)

Using DBS as an example, with its share price at S$77, the minimum lot size currently costs about S$7,700. From 5 October, it will become S$770 thanks to the reduction to 10 units.

SGX will review the list quarterly, so more stocks could see their minimum lot sizes being reduced in the future. Certainly an exciting development to come!

The best part? Once reduced, the minimum lot requirements will stay, even if the share price later dips below the threshold. You can view the board lot size for a security on the SGX Stock Exchange - Prices page:

  1. Go to https://www.sgx.com/stock-exchange/securities-prices.
  2. Under Customise, select Board Lot.
  3. The board lot size for each security will be displayed.
